A Culture Of Scum Bags

No more proof needed as to the fecal state of American pop culture than what is now passing as "news" before our very eyes. Of course I am speaking of
Tommy Lee and Kid Rock from this weekend, tussling for some reason most probably related to the Frankenstein-like aura of Pamela Anderson.
Jamie Foxx had the best line of all when he admonished people to "stop all this white-on-white violence." The best part that came out of the whole thing; Foxx actually demonstrating some creativity. A redeeming bit of humor clearly ridiculing yet another reaffirming demonstration of how hype, skank, disease-control, and the right PR Guys trump talent in America every time. Top it off with an over-indulged Brittany Spears and I ask you - is it any wonder the world thinks we're just a little overblown?
Welcome to the face of modern America as we present it to the world; Mechanical dicks, inflated tits, chemical courage, angry music, reduced attention spans, worship for the lowest common denominator, and virtually no sense of proportion or history when trying to decide the importance of one event to the other. And why not - in a society where the lies come from the top down, the values come from the bottom up, musicians from the coasts kill one another and rich little talentless tattooed runts have a pissing contest in public and this is big news - why should we expect better?
That neither of the guys at the center of the melee have done anything in their entire careers that will outlast their butt ugly images - and nothing done lately is going to stick to the general culture long after their tattoos sag on the fetid rolls of skin in their quickly advancing decrepitude - is hardly the point. This may have assured each of them a resurgence in popularity. That's how it works. The "star-maker machinery" loves this stuff. They've just assured an uptick in sales if they ever get around to making more stupid music the vast hordes of muck-eating sheep who buy this sort of crap yearn for.
And you can be sure - millions of pre-teens and early teens are eating this up. It fuels the next wave of mean girls and bullies who will eventually back some nutjob into a corner and get slaughtered in the next school shooting which is - oh look at the calendar - just a tick away. How 'bout that!?
That's the icon of the culture. Deal with it.
Rebellion is one thing, if it has a point. If it is just self-destruction as a race to the dumpster (literally and metaphorically) it's just stupid. This is just how it is.
And here's a little test you can take to see if you, too, are a victim of the shit culture we've created; if you can explain this post away by saying all this sounds just like the ramping-up of some self-righteous jerk, you have allowed the chiefest cliche and denial tactic into your own sordid little brain or maybe - bingo - you're just obviously an asshole.
So don't look at me.

Did you hear that Mia and Frank are getting a divorce? Ol' Blue Eyes hasn't been the same since he and Ava got divorced.

I have to say I really miss the days when Tommy Lee was known for drumming.

I would blush but I don't think we have that in 2007 anymore... Thanks.

If it weren't for things like this, Tommy Lee and Kid Rock would disappear from the news completely.

God, it's revolting. The most revolting thing being, they're a gazillionaires. Which is why I have no qualms that I download all my music for free.
It's sad that there ARE some talented artists who deserve to be paid, but, FUCK them, I think thier rich enough without my 5 bucks.

Even though I am really smart and know when to use "they're". And "it's" or "its". And how to spell "their". And proof read sometimes.

Thank you. Your words are my own. I think of both Dickens, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times"... and Paul to Timothy, "For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy..."

When will you learn to stop reading and watching the news? It's all a slightly more polished version of the old tabloid shows now.

We are on a slow downward spiral and have been for quite some time. I feel exactly (and I mean EXACTLY) as you do. The only difference is that you have the ability to put it down in words, and do so very well. I, on the other hand, simply seethe and look for a place where I can disappear and remove myself from the assholes.
Everyone who felt they were doing right by dedicating their lives to working for political solutions, thinking future generations would feel grateful and indebted, must be spinning in their graves like rotisserie chickens.
Arthur C. Clarke had it right when he moved to an island and refused to watch TV or read newspapers.
A unabomber cabin in Montana is looking pretty good to me right now.
